Stripping errors causes inconsistent Error Handling Between Direct and Union Type Fields

(I created this issue in this repository, but let me know if this is more a gateway problem.) I'm using ignoreErrorResponses: true in my mesh configuration to strip OpenAPI errors from my Graphql API.
